Tutorial Program
One of our strengths at CBA is adaptability. We pride ourselves on the ability to deliver a rigorous academic program while retaining the flexibility needed to adjust to the athletic training and competition schedules of the student athlete.
An integral part of this flexibility is the CBA Tutorial Program. While many short-time students come to CBA and participate in our academic classes for the duration of their time here, some students choose to complete the academic curriculum offered by their "home" school.
In cases like these, our group of well-qualified academic tutors work with students using the curriculum and resources supplied by the home school. Students complete their work in a true tutorial environment where academic staff assists each student as they complete the curriculum provided by the home school. It is also possible to utilize a combination of CBA class instruction and tutorial instruction depending on the CBA timetable and personnel constraints.
In our experience, if students wish to pursue the tutorial option, the more materials provided by the home school in the form of notes, tests, worksheets and assignments, the more capable our tutors are to meet the academic expectations of the home school. Rather than "teach" a class in the traditional sense of the word, CBA tutors assist with the interpretation and understanding of work provided by the home school in an environment where a student's learning style is valued. Our tutors facilitatate the delivery of the home school curriculum. They are flexible and they define the best approach to tasks in order to maximize student success.
We ensure student success in our tutorial program through effective and timely communication with the home school. It is imperative that we make sure the student, the tutor(s), and the teachers from the home school have a clear understanding of what is required from a student and that all deadlines are met. Clarification and adjustment of the academic goals for an individual student often occur as the home school adjusts to the unique requirements of working with CBA in order to deliver academic content to a student. This is entirely normal and appropriate. We take pride in our ability to work with schools from all over the US and the world to best serve the needs of our student body. Communication and negotiation are the keys in maintaining the delivery of a strong academic program. It is also important for parents to feel confident about their child's academic experience. We recognize the value of and are committed to regular contact with home teachers and parents.
Occasionally students need to pursue a course of study that falls outside the realm of the standard curriculum offered at CBA. In instances like this, we do have access to a certain number of qualified instructors to whom we can outsource academic instruction. The instructor's fee is payable by parents. CBA will work with the instructor to coordinate the delivery of instruction with the student's overall academic schedule. All of our part-time instructors are familiar with and committed to the requirements and standards of CBA in relation to academic instruction and professional conduct.
Our tutorial program is second to none with efficiency, the quality of instructors and instruction. Our cooperative relationship with a student's home school delivers an effective and high-quality academic experience that any student coming to CBA can feel confident about as they return to their home school.
