Performance Director grew up in Maryland.
At the age of 6 Carrie Jo started Martial arts received her black belt by the age of 12. By the age of 14 she had already begun her
tenure as an instructor and started her own Martial Arts program. In high school she also began instructing
fitness classes and became a certified fitness instructor by 18 years of age. After finishing high school, she made her way
out to Western State College in Gunnison,
CO. There, Carrie Jo majored in psychology and
political science. While working on her
degree, she fell in love with alpine skiing, and turned what was once just a
family vacation activity, into a hobby and eventually into a competitive outlet. Throughout her undergraduate work Carrie Jo continued
to instruct fitness classes, eventually becoming the fitness director for a
local gym.
After college she spent some time living and traveling as a
skier and in 2004 began her career as a professional free-skiing competitor. In 2006 she won the US Free-skiing title and placed
3rd on the world tour. Carrie
Jo has been working with Crested
Butte Academy
on a part time basis as a dry-land and free ride coach for 4 years. In July of 2007, Carrie Jo joined the CBA
staff on a full-time basis, dedicating her time and energy supporting every CBA
athlete in their athletic goals. Her
training philosophy incorporates functional sport specific exercises, along
with power and strength training, with injury preventative prehab training, to
make each day one of personal growth and allowing for the discovery of each and
every athlete's talent.
Carrie Jo has been based out of Crested Butte for 15 years
and spends her free time mountain biking, dirt biking and playing in the
beautiful back yard of Crested Butte with her new fiancé Gary.
